Film: Prometheus

Prometheus was probably one of the most hyped up films of the year. Around it's release it seemed you couldn't turn on a TV without seeing a advert for it. On one trip to the cinema there was a advert for the film, a making of feature and then it was shown again on the 'film's of the summer' advert.

Luckily years ago I learned to be immune to hype, mostly due to the Wolverine movie but it's probably not best to get in to that right now. If you're not already aware the film is a prequel to the sci-fi classic Alien, one of my favourite films. Which would increase hype if there were any prequels as good as the original, the Wolverine film being a painful example. However, Prometheus doesn't spend too much time focusing on the Alien films instead attempting to tell its own tale about the creation of mankind while setting up some events of the original.

Michael Fassbender as David the android is the best character in the film, which isn't saying a lot considering he displays a very limited range of emotions. Noomi Rapace as the lead character is frankly whiny and irritating. Charlie Theron is a unsympathetic bitch. The other characters are mostly forgettable.

Unlike Alien, Prometheus lacks the ability to shock. When you see some egg like objects on the ground you know thats not going to end well. There are some big reveals in the final act, but at least one of them is quite predictable and in the end really pointless. The final reveal is very disappointing to Alien fans who will have definitely seen it coming. It also suffers from clear sequel pandering, questions from the film being unanswered and ending on a cliffhanger which is a little farfetched.
