Interiors: Bathroom Accessories
For this month's interior trends, Matthew Mallinson inspires you with some new ideas for the bathroom, from soap to towel holders, to add those all important finishing touches to your restroom.
Natural Soap
If you’re looking for some great smelling soaps, made from natural products look no further than All Natural Soap. The soaps on offer are free of harmful chemicals, artificial colours or fragrances; making them incredibly healthy for your skin. Their products come in a wide variety of fragrances from more traditional fragrances like Lavender to the more bizarre like Seaweed or Gin and Tonic (£3.95 www.allnaturalsoap.co.uk). They also have selections which are formulated for sensitive or dry skin.
Bath Towel Holder
This handmade towel rack captures the shabby chic look incredibly well, having a nice vintage wood finish. Available in a wide range of colours which you can choose yourself, you should be able to incorporate it into most bathrooms. The rack can hold 4 full sized towels, with room for a washcloth on top, making it very functional as well as stylish. (£57 etsy.com)
My Kingdom for a Duck!
Rubber ducks are one of those essential bathroom products, especially if you have young children. While they come in a wide variety of forms we’re quite partial to this Shakespeare one (£5.60 at many National Trust locations including Chartwell House),which captures his visage while also being hilarious! Sure to inspire a wide range of Shakespeare puns amongst your family and friends, or at least they did amongst the editorial team...
Nautical style
This nautical themed blue glass bathroom set (ranging from £4.80 to £8www.houseoffraser.co.uk) makes a strong style statement with its rich hues. Featuring five complimentary containers to hold all your bathroom essentials, with holders designed for toothbrushes, knick-knacks like cotton balls or ear buds and soap; more can be purchased if required.
Bookcase off the starboard bow! [or if it too long “bookcase off the port side” or even “bookcase ahoy!”]
I know what you’re thinking, ‘a bookcase in the bathroom?’, but it is a trend on the rise. With its stylish and bold design, constructed from solid, knotty American oak and oak veneers has enormous character, the Linea Rennes Bookcase (£359.10 www.houseoffraser.co.uk) is sure to be a hit. Finish it off with a few sea inspired knick-knacks: ships in bottles, shells or even a small aquarium for that ultimate maritime look.
Mirror, Mirror
This ornate gold mirror (£30 www.debenhams.com) will add a touch of class to your bathroom, while its slightly faded style will prevent it from standing out too much in a traditionally designed bathroom. Its portrait style gives you the perfect place to do your hair and make-up in the morning and can be easily mounted to your wall.
