The BAFTAs 2011

Thought I should comment quickly on the BAFTAs, having just sat through it for the last 2 hours I feel compelled to for some reason. I doubt anyone was surprised by The King’s Speech winning best picture, but I’ve gotta admit I was a little shocked to see it win so many awards. It was on a role for quite some time taking home: best supporting actor, best supporting actress, best actor, screenplay, best director and of course best film (I’m pretty sure there’s more I’ve forgotten). There was a couple of losses that really disappointed me, especially the lack of recognition for Danny Boyle. And I question the definition of Tom Hardy as a ‘rising star’, feeling he robbed Emma Stone or Aaron Johnson of the award. I’m happy that Toy Story 3 won best animated film because its competition (while still good) paled in comparison. My night was pretty much made by a possibly drunk Rosamund Pike's near announcement of the winner before the nominations had been read causing Jonathon Ross to leap across the stage to stop her. And I was nearly in tears when Christopher Lee came up to accept the fellowship award, finding his speech to be so sweet and heartwarming.

But of course as always the BAFTAs aren’t a major concern for me, bring on the Oscars!!!
