The Oscars - The Unrecognised Greats

The 83rd Academy Awards, known to most people as the Oscars, are now less than 2 weeks away and I intend to do a bit of coverage on it. Lets get started with my look at the films that I believe should of been nominated.

1) Kick-ass for Best Picture

As anyone who knows me will know, I’m kinda obsessed with this film. I love the way it both parodies and pays homage to one of my favourite genres. I love Hit-girl, a 13 year old who can take down a full grown man. I even like Nicholas Cage in it, an actor I would usually wish dead. This film has such a brilliant combination of direction and acting that it may appear surprising that it wasn’t nominated. But of course this film is instantly dismissed because of it’s genre, superhero’s aren’t appreciated by the Academy it seems. Which is a shame because this is a truly amazing film.

2) Emma Stone for Best Actress in Easy A

I’ve already posted an article highlighting my new found interest in Emma Stone so I’m not going to go into great detail about why I wish she’d gotten recognition for her performance. I will say however that her performance is incredibly realistic and at least partially original.

3) There should be 2 more nominees for Animated Feature Film

I’ve always been disappointed by how unrecognised animated films are by the Academy with their only being three nominees when in my opinion there should be five. I probably shouldn’t complain too much however as Toy Story 3 has been nominated for Best Picture as well as Best Animated Feature Film which shows more recognition than is the norm.

4) Jesse Eisenberg shouldn’t be nominated

This ones a little different to the previous three because essentially Eisenberg’s performance in The Social Network put me to sleep, as did the film as a whole, so I don’t believe his name should be mentioned in the same list as the likes of Jeff Bridges and Colin Firth.
