Interiors: Living Room
Matthew Mallinson explores the essential items to add the finishing touches your living room together, from clocks to statues, completing your lounge.
Keeping Time
A clock can feel obsolete in the modern home, when everyone has a mobile phone, so to maintain their place they have to hold a certain style. This wooden framed New Era clock (£64.95 from Maisie K) mixes old-fashioned features with modern details. As well as being fashionable, it is also very functional its large display making it very easy to read.
Love art?
A good statue can really tie a room together, giving the space an artistic talking point. This Lovers Sculpture (£45 from Knole House Furniture) is elegant and romantic, evoking a passionate kiss between a loving couple. The detail of the faces is quite precise and I quite like how their bodies merge into the same base, suggesting they are whole when together.
Box of Tricks
This wooden box is available in two sizes (£10.95 for large as pictured, £7.95 for small from Maisie K) giving your home an old-fashioned look with their well used style. As pictured it is full of artificial flowers (£19.95 per bunch of five), but it can be used to hold most things - from magazines to fruit. The boxes are sturdy enough to double as a small table, holding a cup of tea or coffee.
Flying style
This plane statue (£72 from Knole House Furniture) is simply designed, allowing it to fit into most rooms while still interesting enough to attract attention. Reminding you of trips overseas and escaping, this plane is sure to inspire a few holidays abroad among your family and friends.
Cake time
Everyone loves an elegant tea party, with cakes and sandwiches for nibbles. This cake stand (£26.99 from Lady Butterworth), will make a perfect addition to any party. The stand features two tiers allowing for different sized caked or small sandwiches. An alternative use for it could be as a candle holder for tea-light candles, allowing for several candles on each level.
Book Owl
These owl bookends (£42 from Knole House Furniture) will look great in a rustic home. Finely detailed and unique, they are sure to be a talking point in your living space. They are more than just pretty however, its solid form allowing it to be functional enough to support even the heaviest of books.
